Sandhäger’s in the USA

The first Sandhäger who emigrated to America was:
Christopher Sandheger :       born in Herzebrock, Germany 17.08.1832                                                        died in Cincinnati 02.11.1906

He learned his job in the Hagedorn distillery (Brennerrei), which had changed from Herzebrock to Rheda in about 1838. He emigrated to America shortly before 1857, when he started his firm there. On October 20th 1858 he married Bertha Heinzmann, who had followed him from Germany (Baden near Kaiserstuhl) to Cincinnati. She was born on Nov 4th 1829. The two Ex-Germans had two children:

  1. Christine Sandheger         07.01.1860 – 22.08.1928
  2. Ella Sandheger                 27.06.1862 – 06.02.1893

The two daughters did not stay in America. Why not ? They married two German brothers who stayed (or had to stay) in Germany: They were the sons of the distillery owner Hagedorn in Rheda. Josef Hagedorn (born 1852 in Herzebrock) married Christine Sandheger in 1879. They owed the Hagedorn distillery in Rheda and lived and died there. Cornelius Hagedorn (born 1850 in Herzebrock) married Ella Sandheger in 1884. They lived and died in Münster, Germany. (Christine S. had 6 children, Ella only one). Christines grandchild Lore still lives in Rheda and will perhaps be able to give me some more pieces of information (or documents).

I am quite certain: In 1895 Christopher and Bertha Sandheger were on a visit to Germany. Thex whanted to see their children and grandchildren there. They returned to America in Oct 1895.
